About Arizona Land Records Arizona is a federal-land state. Lands were generally bought from the government or from other individuals. For patents to government purchases, contact the BLM Arizona State Office, which also has copies of the tract books and township plat maps. The National Archives in Washington, D.C. has the land-entry case files for government purchases, the GLO headquarters tract books, the original township plat maps, and a card index to Arizona patentees to 30 June 1908 (excluding private land claims). Local land office records are now mostly found in the National Archives—Pacific Southwest Region at Laguna Niguel, California. For private land claims, (the settling of property ownership by the government of the United States for lands previously acquired under a different sovereign) write to the BLM New Mexico State Office. For transactions between individuals, consult the local County Recorder's office. BLM Arizona State Office BLM New Mexico State Office Hone, E. Wade. Land and Property Research in the United States.
